Write Down Your Daily Reflections
Spend 1 minute each day reflecting. Either at the start of the day or the end of the day, get into the habit of sitting down and writing out three things you are grateful for, or three good things that happened recently. Getting into the habit of consciously recognizing the good that surrounds you may help remind you that no matter what, there is something good in each day.
Do Something You Enjoy
Sometimes we get so busy in life that we forget to take a break and enjoy. Whether you like to hike, work out, cook, shop, paint, read, swim or even just take a well deserved nap, it is important to prioritize this in your life. Be kind to yourself and schedule yourself a chunk of time each week to do something you want to do, whether it is with people or not. Just make sure that you are taking care of your own well-being, as this will by consequence be increase positivity and refresh your soul.
When negative thoughts arise, which they undoubtedly will, give yourself a pep talk. It sounds funny, but actually having a conversation in your own head has shown to change our outlook on things. A few affirmative and positive statements can help rewire the brain to perceive things differently. Having too many negative thoughts? Figure out a way to spin them into a positive is a great exercise. There is a way!
Creating Attainable Goals (With Rewards)
Form a concrete image of what success looks like to you in your own head. Sometimes stress and negativity can seem to cloud the path, but forming attainable goals along your own personal path to success is a great way to keep yourself on track. These goals should be concrete and measurable statements. They can take any form, but we recommend checklists, mind maps or even just notes in your phone. Write them down so you’ll remember. Be accountable to your goals and when you do attain them, reward yourself. You can do it!
BONUS: If all else fails, fake it – because as they say “fake it ‘til you make it”. This is actually backed by scientific studies. Although you may not initially feel positive or confident, pretending to be is the first step. Start with faking a smile. Remember that even if you don’t believe it at first, repeated effort towards positive thinking and a positive lifestyle will eventually become habit!
