The Top 5 Entertainment Gifts For 2015 – Nerd Approved!

That’s right everyone, there’s more!

Today we are sharing with you the second instalment in our Tech Gift Guide series which focuses solely on endless holiday entertainment gifts. If you’re like us, you probably cancelled your home cable TV quite some time ago and are now relying completely on streaming your favourite shows. While we’re all about spending the weekend catching up on our favourite series on Netflix, sometimes we don’t want to stare at our little laptops and crave seeing thingsย on the big screen (we’re sure you can relate!). In this guide, we’ll run you through the best streaming options for your TV, plus some pretty epic Limited Edition gaming systems which are sure to make even theย manliest of men squeal with excitement!

In caseย you missed part one of our series, we covered the best Wearables of 2015 which included options for every budget!

We’ve also decided (since we’re feeling generous) to have a little giveaway to thank everyone who has made our 2015 year the best one ever for our blog (okay, it’s the first year but still, it was great!). Scroll to the bottom and enter the Gleam widget below. Good luck and happy shopping!

Entertainment Gifts

1. Amazon Fire TV Stick ($39.99 USD)

Along the same lines as the Google ChromeCast is the Amazon Fire TV Stick. The Amazon Fire Stick is a casting device that plugs into the HDMI outlet of your TV and wirelessly streams your favourite shows, videos, music and games to the big screen. The difference between ChromeCast and Amazon Fire Stick is that the Amazon version allows you to also watch live TV on NBC, NBA and Sling TV, which include channels like CNN, HGTV, AMC, A&E and Cartoon Network. It also boasts 4x the storage and 2x the memory of ChromeCast and says there will be no more waiting for buffering since the Fire Stick automatically learns what you like and pre-loads it for your viewing pleasure. It also gives you access to Amazon Prime video and Prime music to boot.

2. Google ChromeCast ($45.00 USD)

If you’re looking for the simplest way to stream Netflix, YouTube or any other webpage straight to your TV, ChromeCast is going to be your new best friend. Since purchasing a ChromeCast myself, I’ve completely cancelled our cable subscription. No joke. This thing can get you anything you would ever want right on your TV and can be controlled with either your Laptop, Desktop or smartphone. As an added bonus, the latest version of ChromeCast features faster streaming, the ability to turn your TV into a picture frame and play games on a huge screen. It also comes in three different colours now, because even though it hangs out of the back of your TV, why wouldn’t you want a Lemon Yellow one? (It sounds like I’m being sarcastic but I’m totally one of those people.)

3. Apple TV (From $199.00 USD)

This is probably one of the things we were most excited for to come out this year here at Data Nerds! Like the previous version, Apple TV essentially lets you use apps on your TV and stream things from your computer but now it also lets you talk to your TV. Yep, you read that right, you can talk to your TV. Since Apple TV is now equipped with everyone’s favourite smartphone companion, Siri, you can now use her expertise to control your television experience as well. While Apple TV isn’t as “free” as other streaming services, you can use the iTunes store to rent movies and TV shows as well as download apps like Facebook, Games and more to use on your television. If you ask us, we’re totally into having Siri on our TV’s as well!

4.PS4 Limited Edition Star Wars Bundle ($486.00 USD)

This one doesn’t need much explanation as any PlayStation and Star Wars fan will go absolutely nutty for this limited edition console. Featuring the profile of Darth Vader and coloured controllers to match, this will be at the top of any die-hard fan’s holiday wish list this year. This bundle (only availabel on Amazon) comes complete with 500GB LE Console, USB 2.0 Cable, Mono Wired Headset, Copy of Star Wars BattleFront – Deluxe Edition and vouchers for 4 other Star Wars classics. We’re willing to bet these are going to be the “it” console of the season!

5.XBox One Elite Bundle ($499.00 USD)

We didn’t forget about our XBox fans out there and for you, we have the XBox One Elite Console Bundle. If you haven’t yet heard, the XBox One Elite is the only console with a built in Solid State Hybrid Drive, a whopping 1TB memory and the ability to store over 360 games. The console also comes with the Elite Wireless controller that unlocks your full potential and adapts to your unique movements. It includes a set of 4 paddles, 6 thumbsticks, 2-Dpads, USB cable and travel case. If you have a true gamer on your list this year, you’ll blow them away with this gift.

  6. I love the Amazon TV Fire stick. It’s better than cable for us because the only thing we watch on cable is sports, everything else is on Amazon Prime or Netflix.
