Managing Multiple Instagram Accounts On The Official App Is Finally A Thing

It has finally happened. Instagram has heard our prayers and the time has come where we no longer have to login and out of our different Instagram accounts like cave people. Okay, that might be a bit dramatic but I’m not exaggerating when I say having the option for managing multiple Instagram accounts is one of the most exciting social media updates I’ve seen in quite some time (the one before this was discovering CoSchedule).

So if you’re like me and have to login to about 6 different Instagram accounts on a daily basis, this update is going to save you a hell of a lot of time and frustration when it comes to sharing your latest cat video on your personal account, blog update on your blog account or fancy food shot on your food only account. Everyone has that many Instagram accounts…right? Either way, let’s get started!

Managing Multiple Instagram Accounts

First things first, since this feature is only rolling out gradually over the week, there’s a good chance many of you don’t have access to it yet. Don’t panic though, it’s on its way. I am, in fact, one of those people (probably because I use an Android phone and I’m in Canada) so we are going to have to use these screenshots from iPhoneHacks, Buffer Blog & Engadget to demonstrate just how to do this. [Insert jealous sigh here]

Step #1: Account Settings

Go ahead and pop over into your account settings, scroll all the way down to the bottom. If you’re one of the lucky people who got access to this feature early this week you will see an “Add Account” button. Click on it.

Step #2: Login

Next you’ll have to do the traditional Login procedure to connect all the accounts you’d like (up to 5). After you’ve connected your accounts, you can switch through them easily by tapping the username on the top of the profile page. Simply tap on another account, and you’ll be switched right over.

Step #3: Use Your Different Accounts

You’ll be able to tell which account your using by glancing at the top of your screen. It won’t disappear like it did previously when you only had one account, so hopefully you won’t make any posting or commenting mistakes!

So, are you as excited as I am about the latest Instagram update? Do you use your Instagram for multiple accounts or do you only have one for everything? Let us curious Nerds know in the comments section!

  1. Shaylee,

You cannot imagine how excited I was when I heard this a couple of days ago. I immediately updated my Instagram and that was it. I wasnt aware its geo-location based.

Anyhoo Uk is up so I am happily updating my Instagram. It was getting so annoying navigating several accounts so I neglected one …my personal one! This is super handy as I also handle accounts for others. Awesome and I love that you did reference the image sources. Lots of Bloggers just dont!

    Keep rocking!

    1. Thanks for your comment Julie! I’m so excited about it too – as you can tell! I completely neglect my personal one because of all the other ones I have to keep up with so this is great!

  2. I was so excited when I saw this option! I am glad it is finally here. It took them a while but it is never too late.

  3. I CANNOT even tell you how amazing this is!!! I had done the update super early in the week – I want to say Sunday! And then I found out that it was the update that was supposed to give this feature to us…. Well I was one of the MANY unlucky ones who didn’t have it and had to wait – I checked honestly probably about 10 times an hour if it appeared every. single. day. Hahah – then finally Wednesday night it was THERE!! My mom thought I was insane with how happy I was, it’s game changing!!!

  4. That’s so cool and good to know. At this point in my blogging career, I find it difficult to even use one. lol I know…I need to get with it already. I will pass this on to my techy nerd friends! 🙂

  5. I had heard mention of this earlier this week, but didn’t know the details of it. I’m eager to get started with it though. It looks simple enough and I’m glad to see some new changes with IG!

  6. Yes, yes, yes! I’m so happy about this! Makes managing multiple accounts that much easier. Now if we could add scheduling, I’d be a happy girl 😉

    1. Rocio there’s an app we use called Hopper that schedules AND pushes your posts to Instagram. I don’t know how they do it because technically it’s against instagrams policy but it works 😉

  7. WOW. about time. I guess I can start another account and start doing other nerdy things with account too. 😉

    Thanks for Sharing.

  8. i have heard that this was happening and i am so happy to have this confirmed by you. i manage two accounts so this will be very helpful

  9. Oh my goodness, finally! I had always wondered why Instagram didn’t support multiple accounts. It was always such a pain having to log out of one and into the other. I’ve sought solace in the fact that I only have two accounts, while others maintain a few more. So glad to finally have the ability to effortlessly switch between accounts.
