Are You a Negative Entrepreneur? (And What To Do If You Are!)

Are you a negative entrepreneur? With so many uncertainties and unknowns, it can be easy to get into a negative mindset as an entrepreneur. We have a few tips and tricks on how to banish those pessimistic views.

How To Deal With Negativity As An Entrepreneur

Negative Online Comments

Before reacting to any cynical comments take a moment to process and ask yourself if the comment was at all truthful? This could actually be a great platform for a healthy debate with your follower. Voice your concerns in a polite manner and remember it is sometimes difficult to understand intentions that are not expressed in person. Posting a friendly, thoughtful response is the best way to remain in a neutral position.

Take it to your fans! This is a great way to offer up a conversation to your fellow peers. What better way to get some positive reinforcement while getting some extra hits at the same time!

The best way? Take the high road of course! Resolve the situation by offering to work/speak with the cynic again.

Negative Peers

Complainers:

Avoid surrounding yourself with avid complainers. They don’t offer solutions, only problems. They won’t be afraid to tell you what is wrong with your business plan or goals. Try your best to keep this friend or colleague out of your social circle if you don’t want their negative energy.

Boundaries:

Feeling obligated to spend time with a certain negative Nancy? Don’t. Life is too short to put any unnecessary stress on yourself. It can be hard to try to distance yourself but saving your attitude and outlook from the pessimism, in the long run, is worth it. Keep your interactions short or cut them off if necessary in the most respectful way possible. It is your choice whether you decide to engage with this person or not.

Pick Your Battles:

Engaging every time someone aggravates you will not solve anything. Try to ignore the negativity and keep your emotions in check. If you engage in this behavior you will be seen as argumentative as well. Take the high road and step back from any situations that may escalate.

Negative Headspace

The best way to counteract internal doubt is to build self-confidence. Spend your free time learning and getting knowledgeable in your field. It will take a little patience and a lot of experience to build your fearlessness as an entrepreneur.

Doubt is completely normal when starting out. Everything is new and there will be an abundance of challenges and obstacles as you work up the ladder. Focus on not letting these doubts add up and take over your brain. If you have a slow day, don’t just sit around. Keep yourself motivated, read a book, go to the gym or visit with friends to keep your head clear.

Being mindful of positive self-talk is essential in boosting your optimism. Don’t think anything you wouldn’t say aloud to others. As entrepreneurs, we are quick to criticize every little thing that we do but don’t forget about reflecting on your successes. Reassess your business plan, your goals, and unique wins. You worked hard for these things, allow yourself to celebrate them!

It is easy to focus on our successes rather than our failures but don’t be afraid to give yourself a pat on the back once in awhile! Reward yourself!
