Who’s Ready To Compete?
Hey fellow nerds! That time of year is fast approaching and we are SO excited to bring you the 2nd annual Nerd Olympics!
The story of the Nerd Olympics…
CEO and founder of Data Nerds, Josh Fraser had the concept outlined for the Nerd Olympics ever since the company first opened its doors in 2014. A fuzzy vision of participants competing in silly sporting activities, building team spirit and running around in costumes led the Data Nerds team to decide that not doing this was not an option! October 2016, the idea was manifested and the Kelowna Nerd Olympics were born.
The Olympics hosted 10 of Kelowna’s innovative tech companies in City Park to enjoy an afternoon of fun and friendly competition. The games consisted of a life-size Angry Birds game, Human Hungry Hippos, Zorb Soccer, a nerd-themed relay and various other exciting activities! 2017 will bring back some of the most popular games as well as new activities like a giant gladiator obstacle course. Yes! In true Data Nerds fashion there will be an after party and awards ceremony later on in the evening.
Why we love hosting:
Kelowna is quickly growing its presence in the tech sector and is making its name as the Silicon Valley of the North. The Nerd Olympics creates a common ground for startups and tech companies to meet. It allows us to open the lines of communication with one another. Forging these strong connections will allow colleagues from other areas of expertise to seek each other for help. The best part… it’s just a lot of fun!
How we will measure success for the 2nd year?
Newly forged relationships
Better games, more smiles!
We are so happy this community event has taken off with such a positive response. We are thrilled to announce that KelownaNow will be showing their support with media coverage at the Nerd Olympics. A DJ from Airwaves Music will keep participants moving and having a great time! Local online news source, Castanet has also written an article on the event.
If you didn’t get a chance to participate in 2016, we would love to see you this year! Join us and see if your team can take down last year’s reigning champs Biznas. If nothing else, come out and watch a bunch of grown adults knock each other down playing Zorb Soccer, June 24th in City Park.
