My First 3 Weeks as a Tech Startup Newbie
I did it, I’m a Tech Startup Newbie! This year I went out of my comfort zone to try something new and I haven’t looked back.
For the last 10+ years I have worked at various restaurants slinging drinks, taking orders and, in general, coming home and smelling like that day’s food feature. As dreamy as that was I was ready for a change. I began researching my education and career options when I stumbled across an online ad (with a really fun logo) for a customer service/social media expert at a web technology and marketing company called Data Nerds, based in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. Fast forward to now, 3 weeks later and I am sitting at my desk and loving being immersed in this inspired environment.
Data Nerds is a diverse team of coders, innovators, graphic designers, bloggers and social media experts, trying to make it’s authentic stamp on the internet biz while having fun in the office.
So what do I love about being a part of a still new tech company? The room for growth, it is amazing to go to work every day and be excited about the opportunities that are available, the limits are endless and you just have to find them. Every day is something different. The internet is a vast and ever-changing media with room for constant learning, ESPECIALLY in social media! The best part of joining this company so far for me has been working with a team of other creative minds who are all striving to reach the same goal (and making other crucial decisions such as where to have lunch).
Final thoughts on being a newcomer here? IT’S AWESOME! I’m so glad I decided to put any personal fears on the back burner and go for a job that wasn’t necessarily close to what I had in my previous book of tricks. Be brave and take chances you never know where you might end up!
