The New Tesla P85D is Straight-up Ludicrous

There’s a new super car on the market, and it’s not made by Ferrari, Bugatti or Lamborghini. It isn’t a low-profile coupe with scissor doors and it isn’t going to cost you $1M+. In fact, this new car doesn’t even run on gas. You may have guessed what it is by now, but for all our not so car-savvy friends, we’re talking about the new Tesla P85D.

So here’s the nitty-gritty. The Tesla P85D is a super fast, and completely electric powered 4 door sedan with insane acceleration capabilities, letting it go from 0-60 in only 3.1 seconds. Literally though, the mode to do this is called “Insane” mode and it makes the Tesla come in just under to the $2.1M Bugatti Veyron (2.6S) and the $1.1M Porsche 918 Spyder (2.3S). According to, the closest thing in performance and price might be the Ferrari 458 Italia, but it’s still not going to give you the same acceleration as the Tesla which rings in at a mere $100,000.

But as if Insane Mode wasn’t Insane enough, Elon Musk has just announced the new Ludicrous Mode that will be available as an add-on for $10,000 (but a bargain at $5,000 if you already own the P85D). This will now put the Tesla P85D right up there with Ferrari LaFerrari (2.6S) and McLaren P1(2.8S) by going from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, a 10% improvement from Insane Mode.

And as if this wasn’t cool enough already, this past weekend at Predator Ridge Golf Course in Kelowna, BC (home of the first Tesla 2 charging station in the Okanagan) you were able to sign up and test drive one! Evan and Daniel from our office both got to go and take the Tesla P85D for a spin and here’s what they said:

“The acceleration is smooth and seamless, it handles so perfectly. Going back to my Jeep is like going back 100 years.” – Daniel

“The Tesla was unlike anything I’ve ever driven before. From the lack of engine noise to the insanely wide power band, it out performed all my expectations!” – Evan

Clearly, this is a car worth checking out if you’re in the market for a luxury vehicle. And if we haven’t done a good job at convincing you that you need this car yet, here’s a video of people reacting to Insane mode, we can only imagine how they’ll react when it changes to Ludicrous mode.
